Tips to care for a New Kitten

Getting a new kitten is not less than a blessing for a family. It is wholesome and exciting for the members to play with the kitten and have it around every time. With their cute acts as they are young, it is also important to look after them properly as they are vulnerable to diseases and infections. No doubt if you take them to the veterinarian, they will give you all the important instructions regarding their health, but that’s not enough, the owner also has to take care of their routine.

1. Grooming

As new kittens are sensitive to viral infections, it is important to protect them from dust and allergies. The best way to prevent these allergies and infections is to take care of their hygiene.

  • Cut their nails on time (with a scissor having a blunt tip), so that the dust stuck in them doesn’t irritate their skin.
  • Use wet wipes that are odor-free to clean their coat and fur.
  • Brush them gently as their skin is delicate, try to avoid brushes with pointed/sharp bristles.
  • Always ask your vet before bathing your kitten as they panic while bathing.
  • Vaccinate them on time.

You must make your kitten comfortable with yourself first to follow these grooming methods.

2. Diet

Before buying any feed for your kitten consider the age of the kitten. You must avoid feed containing unnatural components or preservatives. As they are new ones, they might get diarrhoea so it will take time for one proper feed that will suit them. Start with giving them a wet diet, boiled chicken and finely chopped veggies are preferred. Beware of food having spices because it might upset their stomach.

3. Spend time with them

Try to show some affection towards your kitten, buy the cat’s toys and choose a specific playtime because this positive action will make the bond stronger between a kitten and its owner. Spending quality time is taken as the best way to care for a kitten. Introducing them to a new family member, social interaction, and petting them are the crucial parts to train them.

4. Give them rewards occasionally

Start training your kitten gradually, avoid giving them training 24/7 as it will frustrate them. If they do anything bad like scratching the furniture again and again or biting hard, don’t stop them because at that stage they are still learning. Litter training should be given first, their good manners should be rewarded by giving them their favourite meal or patting their back. Treating them this way will develop all the desired behaviours in your kitten.

5. Provide a comfortable accommodation

You should look for a space that keeps your kitten cozy. The bed should be firm for them and the place shouldn’t be suffocating, as the kittens are not born trained, they find it difficult to adjust to a new space. So, make sure that you choose one place that is comfortable for them and you don’t have to change it. All the dangers around their space should be removed so they don’t get any harm from them.

6. Conclusion

Before bringing a kitten to your home, you must consider it as a part of your family. Giving true love and your full attention will flourish them in a healthy cat. Kittens are sensitive so their health care routine should be followed seriously and the owners are suggested not to make them follow a tough routine.
