1. Ensure your dog gets enough exercise

Dogs are generally very active and restless animals. They do not adapt well to sedentary lifestyles as humans do. If they do not get enough physical exercise to drain them of all their energy and excitement, dogs become uneasy and troublesome. Therefore, it is important that as a pet parent you ensure your dog gets sufficient physical exercise. You can do this by taking them for walks daily as well as playing games with them. By getting enough exercise, dogs become easier and more pleasant to deal with.

2. Create a routine for them to follow

AJust like it is difficult for you to deal with another person who does not adhere to schedules, it is difficult to handle a pet that does not follow any routine. Routines help to have an organized sequence of activities at their appropriate, respective times. You do not want your dog coming for a game when you’ve just settled down to work, read your daily newspaper, or assist your daughter with her homework. Therefore, you must set a routine that your dog adheres to, preferably based on your schedule. This way, your pet can anticipate what to do and at what time.

3. Use treats to reward positive behavior

Because you and your dog do not share a common spoken language, your dog must have a way of knowing when he/she has done something right or wrong. It is easy for your dog to know when they have done something wrong because you will probably start admonishing and rebuking them. However, whenever they do something right, ensure that you reward them by giving them a treat whether it’s in terms of their favorite food, a toy, a trip, or some good old playtime. Giving your pet dog treats as rewards encourages them to behave well as they come to understand that there is a prize for displaying good behavior.

4. Give them your attention and affection

Dogs are affectionate animals that like to please their parents now and then. It follows that they also expect their love and affectionate behavior to be reciprocated by their parents. When your dog feels emotionally neglected and ignored, they may resort to undesirable means of attracting your attention such as destructive behavior and unnecessary drama. Therefore, it is important to continue grooming, doting, cuddling, playing with, and rubbing your dog’s back to show them your love and affection. This can also serve as a treat for whenever they do something right. Once your dog feels loved and cared for, they are more likely to behave well.

5. Pay attention to your dog’s nutrition

Ever had a meal you didn’t like for an entire week? How did you feel? Were you still positive with a happy-go-lucky attitude? Of course not. The same thing happens with dogs. When they are not fed the right food, dogs may become anxious, hyperactive, and destructive. Therefore, it is important to feed your furry friend the right dog food that is nutritious for them. It is also critical to stick to fixed mealtimes to enable your dog to have a consistent routine. Avoid feeding them whenever they beg for you to do so as they may become bratty and spoiled, expecting to be fed whenever they feel like eating.
